Pricing

Pricing. How much IS music worth? Well, if I were to say to you that you shouldn't be paid for the long days you spend doing your job you'd tell me to *%$! off. Also. If the music I create isn't worth any money, then why bother stealing it? You only steal things that are worth something. Why steal a piece of concrete when you could steal that Ulysse Nardin Freak that's worth tens of thousands of dollars. $1.99 per track or $15 to $20 dollars for a CD is totally worth it. (I'll create another blog post for those who feel that music "should be free")

So. I'm pricing CDs on the Digital Victrola site as fairly as I can manage and still keep my business bank account open. I don't add on shipping charges because I want to make it easy for you, one price and done. Yes, I sell on CD Baby and iTunes. That's necessary for a small struggling label. But remember, iTunes AND CD Baby both take a cut before sending me anything. I feel like digital downloads should be less expensive because producing a physical CD costs money before I sell even one copy, and the prices for CDs on CD Baby will be different, because they will charge shipping. iTunes doesn't charge shipping and I know that managing a digital library outside of iTunes can be a challenge, so I've decided not to make downloads available on the DigVic website.... for now.

The physical product also has some pretty great graphic artwork and liner notes that you don't get with the downloads, so I feel like it's worth it. All this is to say, I DO appreciate your business and your interest in the music I offer through Digital Victrola. Thank you for buying - digital or physical - and supporting musicians and me in our quest to provide you music of interest.
